Carolyn Thompson Carolyn T. Anderson, 48, flight Attendant

Newport Beach, Calif.--Former Lewiston resident Carolyn Thompson Anderson, a flight attendant for United Airlines, died of cancer July 23 in Newport Beach, Calif.

Anderson, 48, was a 1964 graduate of Lewiston High School. She returned to Lewiston several times during the year preceding her death to participate in the planning of her 30-year class reunion, which was held on the weekend of her death.

She was born Jan 2, 1946, in Boise, to Elmer and Virginia Elliot Thompson. After high school graduation, she worked for The Bon Marche in Lewiston and then joined United Airlines as a flight attendant.

During her 28-year career wit the airline, she was based in Los Angeles, Washington, DC, San Francisco and Seattle. She also served as a flight attendant instructor at United's home office in Chicago in 1989.

During the Persian Gulf War, Anderson served on the planes flying American armed forces home and received a decoration from the assistant secretary of the US Air Force for her services.

She and James Anderson were married Oct 25, 1980, in Rowland Heights, Calif. He survives at their home La Palma, Calif.

Her husband is president and chief operating officer of Fremont Life Insurance Co. and as his wife, she was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rowland Heights and belonged to numerous cancer support groups in southern California.

Survivors in addition to her husband include a daughter, Ingrid Anderson of Sunnyvale, Calif, a stepson, Ralf Anderson of Lake Tahoe, Calif.; four brothers, Larry Thompson of Bullhead, Ariz., Warren Thompson of Seattle, James Thompson of Kettle Falls, Wash, and David Thompson of Boise; and two sisters, Nettlie Thompson of Seattle and Laura Thompson of Torrance, Calif.

The funeral was held July 27 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rowland Heights. A memorial service will be held in Lewiston at a later date.

The family suggest memorials be contributions to the Los Angeles Times Camper Fund for children with cancer, in care of Redeemer Lutheran Church, 19360 Colima Road, Rowland Heights, Calif. 91748.

Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston is in charge of local arrangements.

Hobbies and other interests: Harley Davidson motorcycles, boating and related activities, reading, enjoying all kinds of music, playing scrabble, travel.
Plans or goals for the next 10 years: Staying alive and moving to our new home in Utah.
Major highlights of the last 10 years: Seeing our kids graduate and become employed and self-sufficient (mostly); traveling, especially to two of my dream cities, Vienna, Austria and St Petersburg Russia; Working in Chicago as an instructor for newly-hired flight attendants for United Airlines. In Oct '94 I'll begin my 29th year with UAL. I'm proud of the longevity; working flights to and from Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm and being decorated by the Dept of Air Force for our civilian contributions; waging the biggest battle of my life the past 2 years fighting cancer, learning about not only my own strength and courage, but also about the love and support of my many friends, family and, most importantly my husband Jim.
Other News: Most recently building our new home in Park City, UT which was completed in June. We hope to occupy it permanently in 2-3 years.

Since graduating from LHS, my life has been at times simple and well defined and at other times complex and very exciting. After working at the Bon Marche in Seattle and Lewiston, I joined United Airlines as a flight Attendant based in Los Angeles. During the past 18 years I have continued to travel the "friendly skies", raised my own daughter Danielle 12, and my 2 step children Raif 14 AND Ingrid 13. My husband is president of several insurance subsidiaries for Fremont General Corp whish is based in LA. Our life style centers around our children, professional activities, and church. We travel extensively, raise horses, are avid skiers and enjoy off road vehicle activities. My personal goals have been continuing my education a the college level in Pennsylvania and Calif. I've taken active leadership roles in young Presidents Organization, church groups and the public school system. My hobbies involve studying are, collecting art, and acquiring antiques for furnishing our home in Walnut, a suburb of LA.

I worked for the Bon Marche in Seattle and Lewiston until going to work for United in 1966. I've been based in Los Angeles, Wash DC, San Francisco, and now Seattle. I was married in 1970 and since then I've been busy working, homemaking, and traveling as much as possible. Recently, I've done publicity with United for Expo 74.
