Carl Fred Schimnowski, 65

Carl Fred Schimnowski passed away at his home in Nampa on Aug. 13, 2011, from complications of lung disease.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise. Services are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. An online guest book may be signed at www.nampafuneralhome.com.

Fred was born July 1, 1946, in Lewiston to Velma Mae and Carl Fred Schimnowski Sr. He attended school in Lewiston and then joined and served in the Navy.

In 1966 he met Gayle M. Clark, and they married in 1967. They had one daughter, Tammi. They later divorced. He remarried and then divorced, and from this union he had another daughter, Julie.

Fred had many different jobs over the course of his life. He went to school for accounting and worked in Seattle as an accountant for Pacific Fur Co. Deciding that the rainy weather was not his cup of tea, he moved to Boise where he worked in various capacities as a delivery driver. He then worked for the Boise City Bus Company. He went on to be a long-haul truck driver. One of the companies he worked for was Eby Bros. Trucking. He purchased his own truck and drove as an independent for many years. When health issues caused him to stop driving truck, he moved on and did work as a telemarketer. His last job, which he enjoyed, was driving school bus in several surrounding school districts; and also during the summer months he drove bus for a church, taking the youth group on various outings.

Dad enjoyed fishing and hunting. He made many trips to Seaside, Ore., throughout his life and especially enjoyed going deep sea fishing for sturgeon in the ocean with his father. He had a great love for all animals, especially dogs and cats. His last animal was his cat, simply named Baby Girl, and she was with him to the end and brought him tremendous joy.

Surviving Fred are his mother Velma Schimnowski of Lewiston; his sister Carlotta of Kent, Wash.; his daughter Tammi and son-in-law Bob Newberry of Meridian, Idaho; his daughter Julie Holt of Meridian; grandsons Shon and Joshua Newberry and Michael Holt; granddaughter Riley Holt, all of Meridian; two nieces; and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father Carl Fred Schimnowski Sr.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a donation be made to a local animal shelter to help care for the animals awaiting homes.
