Wednesday, September 29, 1999, Lewiston Morning Tribune Diane L. Cowan, 53, former city clerk SALEM, Ore. -- Diane L. Cowan, 53, former Lewiston city clerk, died Saturday at her Salem residence. The cause of death is pending a doctor's certification. She was born July 5, 1946, at Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, to Ronald and Gloria Vaughan Cowan. She later moved to Lewiston, where she graduated from high school. She was a member of National Honor Society at the school. She was Lewiston city clerk for several years and had lived in Salem for the past 21 years. She was a lobbyist for the Oregon Peoples Utility District Association and worked nine years as executive director of the association. She married William E. Pfefferkuch April 15, 1995. He survives at their home in Salem. She served on the board of directors of the Gilbert House in Salem. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling and golfing. Survivors in addition to her husband include her mother, Gloria Eaton of Lewiston; three sons, Gary R. Halleen of Salem, Eric R. Halleen of Gates, Ore., and Alex Pfefferkuch of Salem; two daughters, Shellagh R. Halleen-Selee of Portland and Erin Pfefferkuch of Salem; a sister, Anita Johns of Silver Peak, Nev.; two brothers, John Cowan of Salem and Ronald Gary Cowan of El Cajon, Calif.; and 15 grandchildren. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salem. The family suggests memorials be contributions to the Gilbert House of Salem. Restlawn Funeral Home of Salem is in charge of arrangements. |
