Martin S. Clinger

Martin S. Clinger was born July 10, 1946 in Afton to Darwin and Arlean Clinger. He died May 19, 2005 in Etna.

Marty spent his early years in Freedom and then moved with his family to California, Arizona and Idaho. He graduated from Lewiston High School in Lewiston, Idaho.

Marty spent summers in Star Valley, living with the Swede Robinson family, doing the things he loved most-farming and riding horses.

Marty attended and played baseball and basketball for Lewis and Clark College for two years. He served an LDS mission to the Tongan Islands.

Marty married Judy O'Keefe in 1968 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, they settled in Freedom to raise their family.

Over the years Marty did whatever he could to provide for his family. He farmed, did construction work, traded horses and herded cattle. He enjoyed working outdoors and spending time with his family.

Marty spent countless hours riding through the mountains on his horses. He often said that he felt more at home in the saddle than any where else.

Marty loved people. He enjoyed visiting and sharing stories with them. He was active in his church and especially enjoyed teaching primary classes.

Marty is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Judd (Mitzi) Clinger; Cynthia (Brent) Kinghorn; Jared (Cynthia) Clinger; Kade Clinger; Charles (Kellie) Clinger; Cole (Kate) Clinger; his mother, Arlean; brothers, Kenneth; Melvin; David; and Brady; sisters, Darlean, Diane and Sara; and 20 grandchildren.
