Charles M. (Mike) Clifford, 65, Lewiston

Charles M. (Mike) Clifford of Lewiston passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, in Lewiston.

Mike was born May 28, 1946, to Charles Francis and Sarah Ellen Cassiboom Clifford. He graduated from Lewiston High School. He took various vocational-technical classes at Lewis-Clark State College. He served in the National Guard from 1964 to 1973 and advanced to warrant officer.

He worked at Cascade Cartridge (ATK) from 1964 to 1977, Qmac Concrete from 1977 to 1981, and Forrest Auto Parts from 1989 to present. Mike married Karen McMurray Jan. 15, 1972, in Clarkston.

Mike is survived by his wife, Karen, of Lewiston; brothers Lester Clifford of Lewiston and Jim Clifford of Clarkston; sisters Patsy and Jerry Klemm of Lewiston, and Betty Rossiter of Juliaetta; niece Cindy and Bill Carver of Clarkston; nephews Scott and Jean Brown of St. Maries, and Charlie Brown of Snohomish, Wash.; and various other nieces and nephews, whom he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Sarah Clifford; and sister, Barbara Arp.

Mike liked to build; he helped build three cabins and was recently helping his niece and nephews build their cabin at Dworshak. He liked to teach the skills he had, and he loved to fish, garden and hunt.

Mike spent his life serving others. As a youth, he would help the neighbor kids when they had troubles with their parents, cars or other friends. He went to work early in life to help his family financially. He cared for his mother, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews throughout his life. He was generous to those in need. He loved deeply and remained committed to his family. His love and care for others reflected his love for Jesus Christ and he demonstrated forgiveness and humility. His life was an example of the love explained in 1 Corinthians 13. "Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant ... Love never fails."

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel in Lewiston, with Pat Wolf officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Lewis-Clark Animal Shelter or a charity of donor's choice.
