John E. Lynch, 89, Lodi, Calif., Tuesday, March 16, 2004



John Edward Lynch of Lodi, Calif., passed away Thursday, March 11, 2004, at home following an illness.


He was born in Bloomington, Ind., to John R. and Orlena E. Lynch March 1, 1915.


He married Eileen Thompson in 1938, and they just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.


He retired as a highly decorated lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, serving in Europe during World War II.


After retiring from the service, John was a high school ROTC instructor and wrestling coach in Lewiston and Pasco. He served in the lay ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ for 11 years in Spokane and Sacramento. He actively served as an elder and teacher wherever he lived.


John is survived by his wife, Eileen; son John of Arizona; three daughters, Kathleen Dunn of Kansas, Linda McKnight of Washington and Barbara Butterworth of California; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Home and Lee Lynch; and sister Velma of Indiana.


The funeral was Sunday at his home church, Calvary Bible Church, in Lodi. The graveside was Monday at Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery in Lodi.
