Carolyn VanDyke, Obituary in York PA, York Daily Record

Spring Grove - Carolyn A. (VanDyke) Bixler, 76, entered into rest on Tuesday March 8, 2022 at York Hospital. She was the wife of Curvin A. Bixler III.

She was born February 24,1946 in Lewiston, Idaho. The daughter of Bernard and Maude (Mahurin) VanDyke. A US Navy veteran, Carolyn was also a volunteer EMT serving many years with Liberty Ambulance Station 25 as well as a First Aid and CPR Instructor for the Red Cross. She was a member of the American Legion Shiloh, Sacred Heart Parish and previously attended and taught CCD at St. Patrick's parish in York. She was a past President of the Ladies Dental Auxiliary.

Including her husband Curvin, Carolyn is also survived by her children Elizabeth A. (Kraft) Bortner of York, Floyd E. Moreland lV and his wife Cortney of York, a grandson George Bortner, a brother Leonard VanDyke and his wife Nancy of Idaho, and her step children Stacey Keller, Curvin Bixler IV, and Alison Lippy of York. She was preceded in death by a daughter Victoria Kraft and husband Floyd E Moreland III.

A grave side service will be held 11am Tuesday, March 15 at Wolf's Covenant Church, 4501 Wolf's Church Road, York, PA, 17408.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Shadowfax Corporation 386 Patterson St. York, PA 17403.

2004 Reunion News:

Past highlights: In 1994 my husband Floyd Moreland died. In 1999 I remarried Curvin Bixler III. I am employed by a physician. Attending Hood College, Fredrick, MD to further degree in Civil War studies for past five years.

Future Plans: My youngest, Floyd, age 20 will be starting college in July, so I will be working for quite a while. Then plan to retire and travel and pursue my passion for antiques. My other children have graduated from college---THANK GOODNESS!

Left Lewiston in 1964 and went to Dental Assistants School in the Navy. There I met my husband who had finished Dental School and was serving his time in the service. We moved to York in July of 1966 and my husband and a physician had their own medical building built. I work occasionally now since we have the two girls, but I worked for 3 years full time before having the children. I'm active in Women's Auxiliary to York County Dental Society and served as an officer on the Executive Board. Bowled 3 years on St Patrick's League
