2014 Reunion News: After 25 years of teaching English, I retired from full-time teaching in 2011 and spent the following year working as the staff associate in my local church where my job included visiting folks who resided in nursing homes or assisted living facilities. However, the pull of the classroom was too great and two years ago I began substituting at the local high school. I will be doing a long-term sub job beginning in a couple of weeks until the end of January. I also began working for WSU last year as a student teacher supervisor. So I would say I am not quite retired. In addition to my work, my husband and I are pretty involved with our four sons and their families, especially our three grandsons. Three of our sons live in Washington and our youngest is a teacher in New York City. So we travel a good bit, having just returned from Amsterdam and Paris last week. I still try to walk four to five miles every day and thanks to Audible books can now listen to books while I walk. I honestly have never had any hobbies but am trying to learn how to garden, grow roses and bake a really good loaf of bread.

2004 Reunion News:

Past highlights: My proudest achievement of the past 10 years is seeing my three oldest sons graduate from college. One son is a musician, one an artist and one in business. My youngest son Micah just finished his first at Western Washington University in Bellingham where he is an English major. My husband and I have worked together to rear them and we have the most awesome sons. Becoming grandparents is pretty nifty too. My work continues to be both challenging and gratifying. Eight years ago I resurrected the student newspaper at Ephrata High School after lots of years without a paper. It's a far cry from the Bengal's Purr. These kids have written about marijuana use, unprotected sex, homosexuality; they write about issues teenagers deal with. The paper has received awards for excellence as we keep striving to get better.

Future Plans: I hope to continue teaching until my youngest son graduates from college. I am convinced working with 16-17 year olds keep you young. I have no hobbies or spare time, but I have become an inveterate walker. I try to walk 4-5 miles a day and I love books and movies. Now if I could only walk and read at the same time.

With the birth of my children, I've taken leave from the classroom to work as a full-time mother and homemaker. I also taught in a pre-school last year where I was able to take my youngest child with me. I do lots of volunteer work at my children's school and we are very busy in the life of our church.
