Lewiston Morning Tribune: Saturday, January 24, 2015

Lee Ellen Dykes, mother, grandmother, sister and best friend, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at age 68.

She was born to Wayne and Lois Harryman on Aug. 26, 1946, in Bremerton, Wash. Lee Ellen was married to Gary Dykes on Aug. 7, 1964, in Orofino, and remained so for 24 years, until his passing in 1989. She and Gary began their family in Lewiston before moving to Spokane and then returning to Lewiston in 1983.

At the age of 35, Lee Ellen was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and was unable to continue her career as an administrative secretary and real estate agent for Century 21.

Lee Ellen enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, interior decorating, travel and, most of all, family. She traveled extensively to Europe, Japan and Australia with both friends and family. She often used her artistic ability and vision to help create interior designs for others.

Survivors include much-loved daughter Renae Charlotte Schmidt; beloved grandson Jordan Gregg and wife Lindsay Gregg of Hillsboro, Ore.; sister Vonne Ringle and nephew Justin Ringle of Portland, Ore.; aunt and uncle Carman and Carol Ulrich of Lewiston; mother-in-law Leona Dykes; and sister and brother-in-law Loretta and Sam Edwards of Winchester.

Lee Ellen was an amazing mother, one like no other. She was independent, warm-hearted, courageous, a friend to everyone and admired by many. People often shared that she was always more concerned about others than herself, even though she lived 35 years in discomfort. We will all miss her greatly.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 31 at First United Methodist Church, 1906 Broadview Drive in Lewiston.
