Debbie J. Sule, 60, Clarkston

Debbie J. Sule was born June 2, 1946, in Lewiston to Curtis and Joy Hall. She went to see the Lord Saturday, April 21, 2007, one day before her mother's birthday.

Debbie had an interesting childhood, sharing hand-me-downs and receiving a dollhouse from her older sister one Christmas. The friends she made with the kids on her block were her best friends for life. Debbie attended eight years at St. Stanislaus Catholic School, and was well-liked by all who knew her. She attended Lewiston High School and was voted "Most Humorous" by her graduating classmates of 1964. This recognition was meaningful to her throughout her life.

After high school, she worked her way through Mr. Roy's Beauty School, baby-sitting Lori and Eric Forest. She attended classes at Lewis-Clark State College before moving to Boise to start her career as a beautician. As the new girl in a new city, she found work at Helen's. With meager means, living at the YMCA, hard work and dedication, she worked her way up from sweeping floors to cutting and styling beautiful hair. Returning home, Debbie worked at Millie's Beauty Shop in Clarkston for several years.

Then the big day April 18, 1970 ... when she married Gary Sule, a handsome young man! Debbie operated her own thriving beauty salon out of their home in Lewiston for several years.

After losing their first son, John Anthony at birth, a year and a day later they were blessed with daughter, Jennifer Lyn Marie, born Aug. 2, 1973, on a beautiful summer day.

The Sules enjoyed many trips together. One of the most memorable was a trip to Hollywood, where Debbie and Gary were selected to appear on the game show Let's Make a Deal. Debbie's creative idea to dress Gary in a bra, moo-moo and shower cap resulted in him winning $200 from Monty Hall. The winnings were squandered by the whole family on lavish fine dining for the remainder of the vacation.

The L-C Valley may remember that this small town girl made the big time in 1993 when her pink piggy stand-up comedy routine was selected from among thousands of entries to be featured on the Vicki Lawrence Show. She also performed her comedy act live at the Mighty Potato Restaurant here in Lewiston. She also enjoyed her time as a Toastmasters member, making the other members laugh.

Debbie always had a zest for life and food. Even though she was not very mobile in the last 10 to 15 years, she loved to watch the Food Network and rave about the amazing chefs such as Ima Gartner, Bobby Flave, Rachel Ray and Giada Delaurenta. She loved spending time in her kitchen with her husband making home-cooked meals and creating new ways to prepare food. They had fun in their kitchen making delicious meals that even Martha Stewart would be proud of.

Throughout her life Debbie had the gift to lift people's spirits. Everyone who knew her always came away with a smile on their face and joy in their heart. With Debbie, a friend was a true friend for life. She will be missed and remembered by all.

Debbie is survived by her beloved husband of 37 years, Gary; loving daughter, Jennifer and fiancee Steve Robins; sisters, Ida Marie and husband Max Harrington of Liberty Lake, Wash., Diana DeMeyer of Mountain Home, Idaho, Penelope and husband Tom Britton of Fox, Ariz.; brothers, Gordon and wife Shirley Hall of Lewiston, and Lex and wife Linda Hall of Mesquite, Nev.; brother-in-law, Robert J. and wife Suzanne Sule of Cranberry Township, Pa. Also surviving her are numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her so very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Joy Hall; son, John Anthony Sule; brothers, Curtis J Hall and Regis L Hall; and in-laws, Edna and John Sule.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clarkston. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with a burial service to follow at Normal Hill Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, Pacific NW Region, P.O. Box 10835, Spokane, WA 99209, or to a local charity.
